Color or growth? That's how Yamato and Shori differ

Yamato or Shori – two targets, two types of feed

Those who want to feed their koi specifically often face the question: Should the feed primarily accompany the natural color development or support intensive growth phases? Yamato and Shori have different focuses in their JPD range.

Yamato: Focus on color development
JPD Yamato is a color feed that is focused on color intensity and skin quality. It contains natural astaxanthin and is primarily intended for active koi during warmer feeding phases. The effectiveness also depends on genetics, husbandry, light, and overall health; food cannot replace these factors.

Shori: Focus on growth
JPD Shori is a floating growth food with a protein content of 45 %%. It is intended for koi in active growth phases and is particularly suitable for stable warm water. High feed intake requires that filter performance, oxygen supply and water quality be adjusted accordingly.

When is which feed appropriate?
If color development is the focus, Yamato is the obvious JPD variety. If growth and body volume are to be promoted during a warm season, Shori is more suitable. It is possible to pursue both goals simultaneously, but the ration must suit the condition of the fish and the pond.

The temperature sets limits
Especially after temperature drops or during transitional periods, not all specialty foods are advisable. Then suitable main or transitional foods may be the better choice.

Conclusion
Yamato and Shori are not interchangeable products. First, select the feeding goal and then check the actual conditions in the pond. The JPD feed overview also explains the other varieties.
